AEO: be in the answers ChatGPT and Google AI give your customers

Customers increasingly ask AI which company to choose and get a short list. We check whether you are on it, which sources the AI builds it from, and what to change. The first check is free.

In the example the AI names four competitors with reasons and sources, and your company is not on the list.

Example: an AI answer to a buyer's question with our check notes. Companies and numbers are made up.

What is AEO

Answer engine optimization in plain words

AEO (answer engine optimization) is the work of making sure the AI tools that answer questions can find, understand and name your company in their answers. It does not replace SEO. It continues SEO in the place where a customer no longer opens ten links but gets one answer.

Google's 2026 guidance says AEO and GEO are just new names: the work of appearing in AI answers is still SEO. An indexed page, content nobody can copy from someone else, and confirmation beyond your own website. So we do not talk about tricks. We put three things in order: the AI can read you, there is something to cite, and other sources tell the same story about you.

In practice AEO and GEO work overlaps, so we do both together and on this page call it one thing: AEO.

What we check

Six steps, always in this order

We start with a measurement, not with guesses. First we learn what the AI answers about your industry today and where it takes that from. Only then is it clear what to fix.

  1. 01

    Baseline

    What the AI answers today

We write three questions your customer would really ask: one broad, one about the service, one with the city. We ask ChatGPT and Perplexity each one twice, in a logged-out browser so history cannot colour the answer. We record whether you are on the list and where.

  2. 02

    Sources

Where the AI takes the answer from

Every answer lists its sources. We count the ones that repeat: Google Business Profile, directories, trade portals, competitors' pages. That shows where you need to be so the AI has something to refer to.

  3. 03

    Access

Whether the AI can read you at all

ChatGPT search only shows pages its crawler OAI-SearchBot may read. Google AI Overviews only use indexed pages. We check robots.txt, indexing, canonical addresses, language versions, and whether the text is in the page code rather than only in images.

  4. 04

    Content

Whether the page answers the buyer's question

AI cites pages with a concrete answer: what, for whom, how much, how long, on what terms. "Welcome to our website" is not an answer. We check every service page against the questions from step one.

  5. 05

    One story

Whether you are the same company everywhere

AI compares sources. If your website says joinery, your Google profile says furniture shop and a directory says construction firm with another address, the AI does not know what to believe and picks the competitor whose sources all tell one story.

  6. 06

    Corroboration

    What others say about you

Your website can say you are the best. AI believes what can be checked elsewhere: reviews, trade articles, directory listings with a description, partner pages. We count what you have and say what is worth getting first. We never buy mentions or write fake reviews.

What we do not promise and do not do

We do not promise a place in a ChatGPT answer. Nobody can guarantee it, because the answer changes with the wording, the day and the sources. We measure, fix what can be controlled, and measure again a month later.

  • an llms.txt file as a magic fix: Google does not use it
  • hundreds of AI-generated question pages: that breaks Google's rules
  • bought mentions and fake reviews

The companies and numbers in the figures are examples.

What you get

A written report anyone can act on

You get the report as a document: the baseline, the sources and a plan in three colours. Carry it out yourself, hand it to your specialist, or leave it to us. The report is yours either way.

  • The baseline table: three questions, two systems, whether you are listed and where
  • The sources the AI builds its answer from in your industry, and which ones you are missing
  • Tasks in three colours: fix this week, fix this month, leave alone
  • The date of the next measurement, so a month later you see what changed

How it works

Three steps and about 5 minutes of your time

  1. Apply

Fill in the form: your website and your main service. No access is needed; we read only what the AI can read too.

  2. We ask the AI

Three questions, two systems, each twice, in a logged-out browser. We record the answers, positions and sources.

  3. Get the report

Within five working days you get the document with the measurement and the plan. What happens next is your call.

Try it yourself

Ask the AI what your customer asks

Type what you offer and where. We write the question the way a buyer would ask it, and you can put it to ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google AI Mode right away.

Question for the AI Who offers custom kitchen cabinets in Riga? Name up to 10 best fits, a short reason for each, and add public sources.
Ask: ChatGPT Perplexity Google AI

Each system opens in a new tab. Answers vary, so ask twice.

Not on the list? Request the check and we will show which sources the AI builds the list from and where to start.

Reviews

What clients say about working with us

Word for word from aembaltic.com. These reviews are about Google Ads and creative work: AEO is a new service and its first reports are being written.

Working with AEM Baltic was a game-changer for our lead generation. I have a very specific, technical niche that most agencies struggle to grasp, but AEM Baltic nailed the approach.

Janis BazevicsFounder, Greenline Energy

AEM Baltic helped us to finalize the idea, maintained communication with us during creative progress and in the end gave us a big batch of ad sets in both static and video formats.

About me

I check your visibility myself

I'm Aksels, founder of AEM Baltic. Before this I spent many years on the client side and watched agencies sell new words instead of work. AEO is real work, but it has to start with a measurement, not a promise.

I ask the AI the questions myself, in a logged-out browser, and record every answer. I write the findings and the plan.

The check is free, with no strings attached. If you want to work together afterwards, great. If not, the report is yours to keep.

Founder, AEM Baltic

FAQ

Questions people ask

What is AEO?

AEO (answer engine optimization) is the work of making sure the AI tools that answer questions can find, understand and name your company in their answers: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. It adds to SEO rather than replacing it.

How is AEO different from SEO and GEO?

SEO competes for a position in Google's list of links. AEO is about your page being the source of a direct answer. GEO is about your company being named in an AI-generated answer. The work overlaps and we do it together.

Can you guarantee that ChatGPT will recommend me?

No, and nobody can. An AI answer changes with the wording, the day and the sources. We can measure where you stand today, fix what can be controlled, and measure again a month later.

What is in the free check?

Three questions your customer would ask, each put to ChatGPT and Perplexity twice in a logged-out browser. You get a table of whether you are listed, the sources the AI builds the answer from, and three tasks to start with. In writing, within five working days.

Do you need access to my website?

Not for the check. We read what the AI reads: your site, profiles and directories. Access is needed only if you ask us to make the fixes afterwards.

How long until there are results?

Technical fixes such as robots.txt show in AI answers within a few weeks. Content and sources beyond your site take months. That is why we measure monthly and look at the trend, not at one answer.

How much does AEO cost?

The check is free. We quote the fixes after the check, when we see how much work there is. Sometimes three fixes are enough, sometimes new pages have to be written.

I already have an SEO agency. Is there a point?

Yes. Use the check as a second opinion. If your SEO is good, the report will show it, and the work will only be about sources and content.

Does this work in Latvian too?

Yes. ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews answer in Latvian and take sources from Latvian websites, directories and Google profiles. Our questions are in Latvian because that is how your customers ask.

Do you work with online stores?

Yes. For online stores we also check the Merchant Center product feed and the facts on product pages, because Google AI Overviews take products from there.
